Welcome to the Committee for Citizen Awareness
- Justice Robert H. Jackson
The Committee for Citizen Awareness (CCA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), non-partisan organization established in 1985 and based in Washington, DC. Our mission is to enhance American democracy in the Internet age by collaborating with distinguished Americans to bring free educational, civic material to students and educators across the country. Our goal is to improve the understanding of and participation in our democratic process among America's 22 million high-school-aged citizens. Furthermore, we hope to increase America's voter participation rate, which is among the lowest in the developed world.
Award-winning DVDs and Innovative Web Site
The CCA produces and distributes American education's most-viewed series of free Telly and Accolade award-winning, civic DVDs. Our DVDs relate national civic matters to specific locales by featuring local hosts, national figures -- such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vice President Joe Biden and CBS newsman Bob Schieffer -- and typically the member of Congress who represents that congressional district.
The CCA web site offers another device to engage American youth in their democracy. In addition to monthly trivia questions, the web site offers a monthly opinion poll (developed in consultation with George Gallup, Jr.), through which students can vote and express their opinions on various national issues. Students can also use the web site to access information about their representatives in Congress.
